The FutureDotNow calculator allows an organisation to estimate the economic benefits of upskilling their own workforce in the 20 tasks set out in the Essential Digital Skills Framework.

Developed by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr), the calculator means that organisations can, for the first time, quantify the return on investment of building workforce digital skills.

How does the model work?

By inputting your sector, region and organisation size, the model provides organisations with a financial estimate of the productivity and profitability uplifts per worker, as well as an aggregate figure for the whole business.

And these financial gains are not just a one-off; once a worker becomes more productive, they stay more productive, so these returns would continue year on year.

To bring the model to life, two worked examples are shown below:

1. A mid-sized construction firm in the North-West of England

2. A large retailer in London
