In April 2024, the inaugural Workforce Digital Skills Summit took place at the Guildhall, London – watch the keynote speech here.
Unable to attend on the day, Simeon Yates, Professor of Digital Culture at the University of Liverpool joined us to record a video keynote for broadcast to delegates at the summit.
In his speech, Professor Yates tackled the question, ‘Workforce digital skills: a problem to solve or an opportunity to realise?’
It addresses issues of building digital products and services for the society we have, rather than the one we aspire to, and the need to understand the Minimum Digital Living Standard households require for digital participation.
Professor Yates also uses case studies developed as part of his research to illustrate the very real implications of the digital skills gap for individuals and society.
