For essential digital skills to deliver real impact, they must be recognised, understood and trusted by employers. Without a consistent way for individuals to evidence these skills in a way that is meaningful in the workplace creates friction for both learners and employers, limiting progress at scale.

Our Accreditation and Badging workstream aims to addresses this gap by exploring clear, credible ways to signal essential digital and AI skills. By translating capability into a trusted, shareable format, we can embed the Essential Digital Skills Framework more deeply into everyday practice and give workers and employers confidence in the skills being delivered.

2026 priorities

We are developing a digital badging model for essential digital skills for work that delivers value for learners, employers and the wider system:

  • For learners
Clear, verifiable proof of digital and AI skills that builds confidence, supports motivation, and helps individuals demonstrate real capability to employers.
  • For employers
A consistent, trusted and quickly recognisable signal of job-ready skills, enabling better hiring decisions, reducing risk, and creating a shared language for workforce capability.
  • For FutureDotNow
Greater impact through embedding the framework in practice, driving scalable adoption, strengthening influence with employers and government, and creating sustainable income.

Delivering the workstream

Still in the scoping stage, our action plan will out how we will design, test and scale a digital badging model that works in real-world settings. It brings together partners across employers, awarding bodies and policymakers to ensure the approach is credible, practical and can be widely adopted.
