Essential digital capability in the Education sector is critical. Not on only because of the productivity and future-proofing implications that affect all sectors, but also to ensure educators can share the digital skills our young people will need for the world of work.

With leadership from Gateway Qualifications and the AELP, our Education sector team is delivering an action plan to make the workforce digital skills gap a recognised priority across the sector and build active commitment (e.g. more Charter signatories).

Our Education team

As well as mobilising sector-wide engagement, our Education parters are also demonstrating what good looks like through employer-led action within their own organisations.

A varied sector landscape

The diversity of the Education sector provides clear segmentation opportunities for targeted engagement. Our Education team is exploring channels to reach the following segments:

  • Further Education (colleges)
  • Higher Education (universities)
  • Adult & community learning/skills providers
  • Work-based learning (apprenticeships, training providers)
  • Vocational / Technical education
  • Early years & primary education
  • Secondary schools

2026 action plan priorities

The Education sector team is focused on turning growing awareness of the digital skills gap into sustained, sector‑wide action. Priorities include scaling reach through trusted sector channels, expanding engagement beyond Further Education into schools, Higher Education and adult learning, and increasing commitment through Workforce Digital Skills Charter signatories and members.

Alongside this, Education partners will lead by example by embedding essential digital and AI skills within their own organisations, sharing practical learning and case studies to demonstrate what good looks like and support wider adoption across the sector.
